How is it like meeting
the fans just now?
Chuck: We always do signings.
Even if it's not an official signing, we always hang out whether it's the hotel lobby, at the airport, after the shows, before
the shows...
David: Hotel rooms! [Laughs]
Chuck: We always hang out and sign and just chat. Just like kinda learn
who likes your band. It's always exciting. It's always an honor to travel the world and have people that actually know you
everywhere.
Jeff: Our fans are very nice. They are not like crazy fans. They will just talk to us and they know
we are accessible so they are not like crazy about it, you know.
What do you think is the most lovable thing about
your fans?
Chuck: Just their devotion to the band and the music.
David: Yeah! They are really intense.
Chuck: Like here (Malaysia), we get to see people from Bangkok, Singapore, Japan that flew here just to watch
the show and say hi to us. They don't even have tickets and they are still coming. To me, that's pretty amazing. It tells
a lot just to have such devotion to the music. And also the fact that they are really friendly. They bring you gifts. They
don't have to do that and they still do it. So it's pretty amazing.
Jeff: Some of our fans barely speak English and still manage to, you
know, learn all the lyrics by heart, translate it and...
David: Sing-along!
Jeff: They even write us letters that took them like 10 hours to write.
It's always nice to see that people go that far to tell that they love you, you know.
Chuck: It's totally touching!
A lot of your
fans are like young teens. And you guys are like 23, 25. How did you guys managed to connect with them at such a level?
David: Well, wait till you go to America! [Laughs]
Jeff: Some of our fans are that age but some of our
fans are older too. It's a pretty wide range. But for us, we are on tour all the time and we have a life that keeps us very
young.
Pierre: I don't think it really matters. Age doesn't really matters. It's
not like you are 16 and you can't relate to someone's who is 25.
Chuck: We just write about our lives and our problems and whatever that
matters to us. I think they are pretty universal themes. There's nothing specific about 25 compared to being 21. I think that
the human experience is the same. People that are 16 or 25, they can have the same emotions and go through the same kind of
problems and troubles. Whether it's girlfriends, friends, authority figures, whatever. Everybody deals with the same kind
of relationship, same kind of issues. To me, it's kinda weird that people say that "Oh you write music that only high school
people can relate to." To me it's kinda bizarre 'coz I don't think our songs are just about personal stuff whatever age you
are.
Your new album is titled Still Not Getting Any…. What's with the "..." in album titles?
David: Fill in the blanks!
Jeff: You can be still not getting any... respect,
any love, any good critics. You can think about a lot of things that will fit in there.
Pierre: The one thing that wouldn't fit is... Still
not getting any good fans!
Jeff: Yeah! Our fans are the best!
Seb: That's true, because we do have good fans! Good
point Pierre!
Pierre: Point taken!
