Pierre, I read that you lost your voice recently and canceled
a Las Vegas show?
Seb:
We found it though. We found that he left it in the drawer! Bottom drawer!
Pierre: No! I just wanted to gamble
when we were in Las
Vegas so we took a day off. I'm kidding! I didn't lose my voice but I was feeling like if I did
play, I would lose it. So I thought it's better if I could rest. I was really sick; my throat was really sore. I didn't want
to ruin the whole Asian tour so I figured it's better to stop one show and be able to keep on going afterwards rather than
f**k up the rest, you know.
Does it feel like an Ashlee Simpson moment there, losing your voice?
Jeff: No, 'coz we did not do the tracks!
Pierre: I think every singer goes through
times when you tour constantly and there's always once in a while when you get sick and you gotta deal with it.
Jeff: Some people press "Play" when they decide to play.
Pierre: See, Ashlee Simpson when
she gets sick, she doesn't sing. I still sing!
David: She never sings. What are you talking about?
Pierre: Right! She never sings. She's
a f**king b***h. I hate her!!!
[Everyone reels in the shocking statement]
David: Whoa!
Seb: What?! That's a lot of
anger, Pierre!
Pierre: It was a joke! I'm kidding!!!
I'm trying to strike a controversy here!
Seb: Okay! I hate you Pierre!!!
Chuck, you are writing the video treatment for your new single "Shut
Up!" Any insights to what the video is about?
Chuck: I can't tell you! It will spoil the whole thing!
Seb: We
know it's gonna be good! We are going to be in the video!
Chuck: It's gonna be a kickass video! The best one that we ever did! We just came up with the idea
and we are really happy. Things are going to be awesome. We are actually in the process of picking who's going to direct the
video. We are probably going to shoot in December and the single will be released in January/February. I don't know. It's
exciting! It's a really "in-your-face" intense song! It's going to be an intense video!
You guys have musically
improved on the new album. How did that come about?
Pierre: Thank you!
Chuck: Our goal with this new album is to make better
songs and make better music. Just write better lyrics and take this band from here to the next level. That was our goal and
that's what we did. We are really pleased and happy and proud of the new music. It just feels so much better. The record is
exactly what we wanted. It's much more aggressive than the first record. It's more like what we sound live and it has a lot
more energy. We are really happy about that. Being in a band for the last four years everyday, you get more confident. I think
it's a confident record. We just play better.
And there's a piano song on it titled "Untitled." Will you guys ever
play that one live?
Pierre: The part with the piano, we will play it with a guitar!
Chuck: Yeah, we are going to do a adaptation. Like a different
version live. In the studio, the approach was like there's no rule, there's no goal. Whatever feels right for the song, whatever
makes it better, let's just go and do it! Who cares whether it's piano or strings or whatever. Let's just make it the best
as possible. As far as doing it live now, we just have to deal with it. A different version will be just as cool, if not better!
In
your new album, there are like photos of you aging to 95. Is that what you envision yourself to be?
Jeff: I hope not!
Seb: Yeah! I envision
peeing myself and walking around with life support! Yes! [Laughs happily]
How do you guys really see yourself
years down the road then?
Pierre: I don't know...
Jeff: Hopefully we will still be onstage or somewhere playing as a band and still
being relevant and still having good songs to play live! That's all we can hope for, you know.
Seb: And still
alive! That will be a good one too!
